saying goodbye

May 6, 2014 § Leave a comment

there once was a reason
to negotiate his dialectic,
when he had an interest in
categorizing the talismanic
or revising his list
of minutia –
the stuff
he used to say
that made this place his home
lately it is as if
he is just a few grains of dust
in another layer of silt and mud
being laid down for
an unborn generation to
look upon
as a curiosity

he is holding on
waiting for something
just
one
simple
thing
to animate him out of the rock
and back into the world

if nothing else
but to have the chance
to tip his hat
and flash the bird
in a proper
gentlemanly
farewell
