solitary wine

solitary wine

we inherit whatever
spills from
cages of those
who ferment
solitary wine
before we know
the meaning of it’s taste
tracing the shape
of shadows
hunched over books
we know their eyes
do not sync with
their smiles
as they advance through
pages and
gesture to the carafe
between us
