retrieve

I may have known
without knowing
the doubt that lay
within it
I may have carved it
in marvelous
callous sun
I may have heard it
bouquet of bourbon
brethren singing
with lungs
of perestroika
of railroad strike
enslavement
faulty tenor
riding terror
in ancient
mother tongue
I may have danced
without shoe
or sacred bending
let the earth
rise to meet me
lizard regenerating bone
I may have seen
seasons of forgiveness
seas of transmutation
seeking information
in this and all of this
if told that I’ve been done
by someone
complete
I could conceive it
I could believe in sheltered
evenings
I could retrieve my
scattered children
the parts of me
now gone
