unspoken generational divide

she exits the bank
her gloved hands
on the walker
long coat
her scarf
it’s August

heading for the bus stop
his gait a rythmic
loosely worn
urban beat aura
sleeveless white shirt
pants down around his ass
the crisp flat brim
of his cap cocked
decidedly starboard

both give
the other a momentary scan
as they pass
both shake their heads

this greeting,
a familiar
echo
of disconnect,

is silently absorbed
by the sounds
of the day
